MGM China joins the list of companies in Macau to pay its gratitude to team members in financial terms. The company announced a one-time discretionary allowance that will be paid out to 97% of its team members who are eligible for the bonus.

The payment is equivalent to a full-month salary and it’s a token of appreciation that MGM China wants to show for its team members in Macau, who braved one of the hardest years over the past 12 months, dealing with resurging COVID-19 infections and operating under tight market conditions, tanking gross gaming revenue by 50%.

The bonus will be paid on time for the Chinese New Year or around this period. Commenting on this development, MG China Holdings Limited Executive Director Pansy Ho said that the company was celebrating its 15th Anniversary and was grateful to its staffers for maintaining the operations on track.

Ho is confident that Macau will experience a resurgence in the wake of lifting traveling restrictions which are owing to the government’s abrupt U-turn from its touted zero-COVID policy which provide unsustainably. "MGM is ready to embrace the new opportunities ahead and will continue to take practical actions in promoting the economic diversification of Macau," Ho concluded.

MGM China is not the only company in the special administrative region to show the same level of appreciation for its workers. Wynn Macau Limited and Las Vegas Sands also announced similar discretionary payments earlier, covering almost their entire workforce.

The rejuggling of gambling laws in the SAR has not put paid to concessionaires’ enthusiasm that better times lie ahead. Macau is largely changing its fabric and the focus of its gaming operations, with gambling companies now looking to boost the SAR’s non-gambling industry.

This will be a mix of targeting overseas customers and investing copiously in the existing infrastructure in the city. Macau wants to see a confident shift away from gambling in the coming years but expects concessionaires to meet their minimum obligations when it comes to contributions towards the budget.

Concessionaires feel confident that they can get there and despite the difficulties, they have been more than happy to honor their workers.
