Michigan man buys lottery ticket by mistake, wins 2x $110K prizes

One lucky lottery player, who purchased two tickets for the same drawing of a popular lottery game by mistake, won two six-figure prizes.

That’s the story of a Livingston County man, who scored two hefty prizes from the Michigan Lottery’s Fantasy 5 game.

"You’re not going to believe this, but I won a second $110,000 prize!"

The fortunate 68-year-old man, a Pinckney resident, decided to try his luck by entering the Fantasy 5 drawing on June 15.

The player admitted that when he purchased his first ticket, he was together with his wife on vacation up north Michigan.

After they came back, the man said that he couldn’t remember if he had purchased a Fantasy 5 ticket or not.

As a result, he bought another ticket for the same drawing.

One of the two tickets of the Pinckney man was purchased at Krist Food Mart on 12969 US Highway 31 North in Charveloix, while the other one was bought at Toski Sands Party Store on 2292 M 119 in Petoskey.

Interestingly, both tickets turned out as winners and the fortunate man scored two $110,000 Double Play prizes.

In an interview for an official from the Michigan Lottery, the Livingston County man said that he has been using the same set of Fantasy 5 numbers for years.

"A few days after we got home from vacation, I pulled out over a week’s worth of tickets and started checking them," the lucky man revealed.

He instantly recognized the Double Play winning ticket for the June 15 drawing and called his wife to give her the good news.

"After I got off the phone with my wife, I started checking the rest of my tickets which is when I realized I had two tickets for the same drawing and won another $110,000 prize," the man added, recalling the thrilling moment he saw another Double Play winning ticket.

"I called my wife again and said: ‘You’re not going to believe this, but I won a second $110,000 prize!’ I couldn’t believe it," the man said.

When asked about his plans for his newfound fortune, the lucky man said that he will spoil his grandkids, purchase a new truck and save what’s left.

Each Fantasy 5 drawing offers a chance for a range of prizes

Fantasy 5 drawings are held seven days a week, and the cost per play is $1.

An extra $1 per play enables the EZmatch option that grants players a chance to instantly win a prize of up to $500.

On the other hand, an extra $1 per play unlocks the Double Play option that offers players a second chance to win a prize of up to $110,000 in the game’s nightly Double Play drawing.

In Fantasy 5, players pick five numbers between 1 and 39.

Matching all five winning numbers wins the Fantasy 5 jackpot which starts at $100,000.
