The National Council on Problem Gambling Awards held on Friday distinguished BetBlocker, a UK-based charity committed to reducing gambling harm by empowering consumers, with the Jim Wuelfing Annual Award for Prevention, earmarked for companies that have shown a strong track record in committing to responsible gambling, harm prevention, and raising awareness about the pitfalls surrounding gambling.

BetBlocker is distinguished for its contributions to reducing global gambling harm

The award was received by BetBlocker Chief of Safer Gambling Partnerships Pedro Romero (pictured) who welcomed the opportunity to see the efforts that have gone into creating a safe product that currently blocks access to 80,000 websites and 1,500 apps at the request of consumers who are seeking to improve their relationship with gambling and improve their gambling habits in general. Romero has welcomed the award and its significance for his company:

"It was incredibly humbling at the NCPG conference this year to speak to so many of the harm minimisation organizations in the USA that are already referring their service users to BetBlocker."

He acknowledged the platform’s core strength being its anonymity and accessibility, and added that in having focused on building the platform, BetBlocker has not been keeping sight of how many people it has actually helped – something that the award has now brought to the company’s attention.

The award itself was inspired by a prominent proponent of gambling-related harm prevention in the United States, and the ceremony itself is part of a sprawling and intensifying effort to strengthen the safeguards offered to consumers in dealing with the growing iGaming and sports gambling industry.

The distinction is reserved for companies that have a strong track record in protecting consumers or serving as a bridge between solutions that safeguard consumers and the gambling industry, which is precisely what BetBlocker does.

Protecting consumers by empowering them to make the right choice for themselves

BetBlocker is a piece of software that allows its users to tap into it anonymously, protecting their identity while benefiting from the inherently good impact it could have on their lives. BetBlocker Founder Duncan Garvie has welcomed the news about the company securing one of the highest accolades in the industry:

"Recognition of BetBlocker’s work within the problem gambling space by the NCPG, one of the most influential voices within the sector, is amongst the highest possible accolades our organisation could receive. I speak for the entire BetBlocker team when I say how deeply honoured we are to receive this award."

BetBlocker is not limited to a single jurisdiction either, and it has already been rolled out to success in numerous jurisdictions with the state pushing for its wider adoption as a meaningful solution in helping problem gamblers and those at a high risk of developing a gambling-related problem to rein in their spending and shift to better overall relationship with the activity.

BetBlocker has also been adopted by a range of private operators, including Coolbet, Stake and DraftKings.

To further ensure that its platform has the sought impact, BetBlocker is also available in six languages, allowing the app to quickly and easily be adopted and picked in crucial jurisdictions around the world.

Most recently, Casino Guru and BetBlocker have announced a new chapter in their collaboration designed to strengthen the safeguards available to consumers worldwide. To this end, BetBlocker is integrating Casino Guru’s Global Self-Exclusion Initiative with its offer.
