MGM Resorts International and BetMGM, an acclaimed land-based operator of casinos and a sportsbook & gaming company respectively, have teamed up with the American Gaming Association (AGA) to work together on promoting Responsible Gaming Education Month (RGEM) in 2024.

BetMGM and MGM doubles down on RGEM

The campaign, which is underway throughout September, will see the two companies leverage their footprint in the sports betting and gaming sectors and launch a campaign with the National Football League (NFL).

This is the second year the campaign is running with physical and digital signage which will promote GameSense, the advanced social and responsible gambling program that focuses on helping consumers reduce their bad gambling practices and educate audiences about the pitfalls of problem gambling.

Commenting on the opportunity, BetMGM Chief Compliance Officer Rhea Loney said that she was excited to have the opportunity to see the company continue its commitment to building a safer gambling environment for all.

"We're excited to bring responsible gaming initiatives directly to fans in these NFL venues again this season. We are setting a new standard for safety and awareness in the industry. At BetMGM, we believe that protecting our players and promoting responsible play is essential to the future of sports betting."

GameSense is one of the leading responsible gambling programs in the sector developed by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation and adopted by MGM Resorts back in 2017.

The program has been actively building transparency in the gaming sector and seeks to promote positive interactions between companies and consumers.

Thanks to the partnership between the companies and the NFL campaign, participants help raise the bar for responsible gambling practices, which has been improving nationwide according to AGA’s account.

A recent survey by the trade group indicated that the majority of Americans believe that the industry is working hard to raise responsible gambling standards, and 65% of consumers see the gambling industry favorably, and as working towards raising standards and understanding of problem gambling.

MGM’s continues with multi-year efforts to buttress RG practices

Meanwhile, MGM Resorts and BetMGM have been committed to taking responsibility for gambling messaging on their platforms and introducing it to larger audiences. The partnership with the NFL was a step in this direction in 2023 with the 2024 partnership continuing this newfound opportunity to get the message across.

At the same time, MGM Resorts has already allocated $440,000 to fund responsible gambling research with the help of the International Center for Responsible Gaming and Kindbridge Research Institute.

Another part of the RGEM responsibilities assumed by the companies is to continue to improve employee awareness about the issues that GameSense and the monthly campaign seeks to address, such as spotting problem gambling and helping consumers learn about best practices. Employee training is undertaken with EPIC Global Solutions.
