Former Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) boss, Carl Brincat, has been hired by LeoVegas AB to lead its Policy and Regulatory Affairs. Stepping in the position as a Director, Brincat brings a wealth of experience with his skills honed in one of the most demanding regulatory environments over the past 10 years.

Brincat takes on his first role in the private iGaming sector

Brincat stepped down from his position at the MGA in January 2024, passing the baton onto a hand-picked successor, and he has now signed a new full-time contract with the private sector. Brincat’s decision to leave the MGA has never been clarified, but it has proven an opportunity for LeoVegas.

Brincat is due to step into his new position in August, and he has been welcomed by the group’s Chief Legal Compliance Officer, Abby Cosgrave, who said that the new hire brings extensive experience from the regulator and would be an incredible asset to the company’s ongoing efforts to navigate different regulatory landscapes.

Brincat was himself excited at the opportunity and welcomed the chance to step into the new role, vowing to support the group’s plans to expand commercially and help LeoVegas build strong rapport with both regulators and policymakers across the globe.

"The LeoVegas ethos aligns with my own, and I can’t wait to lead the team in supporting the plans to expand commercially whilst continuing to enhance the already excellent relationships with regulators and policymakers around the globe," he noted.

Building strong connections with policymakers and regulators worldwide

Brincat is a well-seasoned legal expert who has served his entire career so far in the public sector as part of the MGA.

He has held numerous positions within the organization, climbing through the corporate ladder first starting out as a legal advisor in 2014, and then proceeding to C-level positions such as Chief Legal Counsel from 2019 onwards.

He was eventually appointed CEO of the regulator in 2021 and served out a three-year stint until 2024.
