DraftKings employees in hot mess over college prop betting ring

• Two DraftKings employees have been named in a college betting ring, with one of the pair already charged
• A total of five people have been suspected of participating in the alleged scheme
• A single suspicious bet has been cited at the core of the case with a four-way split between suspects

At least two Las Vegas DraftKings employees, an anonymous one and one identified as Samuel Silverman in court documents, have been named in a new corruption probe involving college prop bets.

One of the employees has also been arrested and charged with commission of a fraudulent act in a gaming establishment as well as conspiracy to cheat at a gambling game.

With a preliminary hearing now scheduled for August 4, Silverman is allegedly involved in a college proposition-bets scheme, the latest high-profile scandal tied to sports betting.

The new case comes on the heels of a similar scandal involving Brendan Sorsby, a former NCAAF athlete, who, while not conspiring to influence the results of college-level games, placed more than $90,000 in total wagers across various sports, including on his own team.

Silverman was investigated by the NCAA and the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB), and he is one of five people suspected to have participated in the alleged betting ring. Notably, the DraftKings employee is the only person who has been so far arrested and charged.

The NGCB focused on a game that took place between Fresno State and Colorado State University which took place on January 7, 2025, with a bet placed through BetMGM. Silverman was himself a Fresno student through 2024.

Investigators found out that another DraftKings employee had placed wagers on the game, but the activity could be traced back to Silverman. That other employee was, in fact, Silverman’s roommate, apart from being his colleague.

A total of $15,950 was paid off the suspicious bet, which investigators allege was split four ways, with $1,450 going to a Fresno State basketball player, $3,000 allocated to Silverman, $200 to another person, and $11,325 to the unnamed DraftKings employee who placed the wager.

The case is ongoing, and more charges may be levelled in time.
