In the latest episode of Safer Gambling Talks with Šimon Vincze, Casino Guru's Head of Sustainable & Safer Gambling, Vincze sits down with two industry veterans who have committed a significant part of their lives to shaping the future of responsible gambling and safer play.
Today’s episode features an in-depth discussion with Better Change Engagement Director Robert Mabbett and Better Change Head of Strategic Partnerships Dave Richardson. The episode probes both speakers' career paths and journeys in the charity sector but similarly seeks to address the bigger issues of the sector.
The duo discusses the dynamic and ever-changing landscape of responsible gambling in the industry and the role their company specifically plays in enhancing and strengthening player protection.
This discussion is marked by a deeper insight and understanding of the industry’s evolving understanding of the issue at hand.
Mabbett remembers a time when many of the things that are taken as a given today were new and unexplored in the past. "The fact that we are now becoming conscious of the need to provide safer gambling tools, make players aware of potential risks, be able to spot issues, be able to interact. This was all very new," he said.
Mabbett also highlighted that a growing number of people who engage with the industry, and specifically the charity sector, do so out of strong personal motivation, usually the result of a bad experience with addiction.
Richardson touches on the concept of positive play and talks about what he believes to be the best way to address the outstanding issue of problem gambling.
He argues that positive play applies to players who understand how safer gambling works, and how they can be influenced by it, but at the same time – there are groups of people who should not be turning to gambling at all.
The full conversation between Vincze, Richardson and Mabbett is well worth watching in its entirety, as the discussion pivots from one interesting topic to the next.
