The Responsible Online Gaming Association (ROGA), a body of commercial betting companies in the United States, is embarking on a new responsible gambling program geared towards college students and educating them about the risks associated with the industry.
The campaign, set to roll out in early 2025, is developed with the help of EPIC Global Solutions, Kindbridge Behavioral Health, and the Responsible Gambling Council (RGC), a trifecta of responsible gambling bodies that have a strong track record in advertising and advancing the causes of safer gambling.
The program will be intended for university-aged students, EPIC Global Solutions clarified in an official press release. The initiative will seek to teach financial literacy and responsible gambling to college students in a bid to protect them from falling victim to reckless gambling themselves, or compromising themselves in other ways linked to the industry.
"A main goal of ROGA is to promote responsible gaming education and awareness across various audiences, including the college-aged demographic," said ROGA Executive Director Dr. Jennifer Shatley. The program launched by ROGA will specifically aim at college students as opposed to student-athletes, as many excellent programs are already doing that.
"Our aim is to provide much-needed information and resources about responsible gaming concepts, raise awareness of the consequences associated with problem gambling and available support services, and teach general financial literacy skills that will help students build and maintain good financial habits whether they choose to engage in gaming or not," Shatley elaborated.
For its part, EPIC Global Solutions is similarly excited to be working on this fresh initiative, as the company has already worked on educating more than 50,000 NCAA student-athletes and staff about the dangers of gambling and the pitfalls that student-athletes and staff members face.
Now, though, the focus shifts to the broader student body, with EPIC Global Solutions keen to enhance students’ financial literacy and help them make sound decisions about how they spend their money recreationally and otherwise.
Daniel Umfleet from Kindbridge Behavioral Health added that it’s important for students to be properly taught how to balance entertainment options – such as gambling – with their academic and personal responsibilities. Partnering with ROGA is a meaningful and impactful way to achieve just that.
As to Responsible Gambling Council CEO Shelley White, this new campaign was a natural continuation of the RGC’s efforts. For more than 20 years, the organization has worked with various young adults helping them be better equipped in navigating the gambling industry and recognizing their behavior.
ROGA will seek to push educational materials and readily available tools to the college-age demographic in its bid to protect young people from falling into the common pitfalls associated with gambling.
