Kambi Group’s Board of Directors has appointed a new Chief Executive to replace the outgoing incumbent, Kristian Nylén, who is due to strep down at the end of the month. His successor, a former Interwetten and Sportradar top brass, Werner Becher, will become the company’s new CEO starting on July 25, Casino Guru News learned in an email press release.
The change in leadership comes after Nylén announced his intention to step down in January after 14 years on the job, and as Kambi Group is in the midst of an ambitious and ongoing share buyback program, strengthening its control over the company.
Commenting on his appointment, Kambi Co-Founder and Chair of the Board Anders Ström welcomed the arrival of Becher as part of Kambi Group’s C-suite. He added:
"Werner is an exceptionally suitable successor to Kristian Nylén. With extensive industry experience, strong entrepreneurial spirit, proven business acumen, and exceptional drive, we are confident Werner is the right choice to lead Kambi into a new era."
Becher is a smart pick for Kambi Group, bringing a wealth of experience with him. He previously worked at Sportradar where he led the company’s EMEA and LatAm business divisions, and also held a stint as Chief Executive at Interwetten. His experience mixes both B2B and B2C roles, and comes with a lot of technological experience and relevant background.
Becher’s time at Sportradar in the span of four years allowed him to further hone his understanding of the global sports data and betting sectors worldwide, allowing Sportradar to secure its positions in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America.
He was no less instrumental to the successful launch of Sportradar’s Initial Public Offering on NASDAQ back in September 2021. Becher has already outlined some of its plans in his new position, claiming that modular services will be one of the core focuses of Kambi Group moving forward.
He has praised Kambi Group’s leading role as a sports betting partner and said that this modular approach that mixes expertise from different Kambi Group divisions and subsidiaries, such as Tzeract, Abios, and Shape Games, will help move the needle forward for the company.
Commenting on his appointment, Becher said that he was honored to have been hand-picked as Kambi Group’s CEO and praised the company’s ability to stay at the forefront of the sports betting industry.
"I join Kambi at an exciting time in its evolution, as it continues to open up its service and widen its addressable market," Kambi added.
He hailed the opportunity to work closely with the Board, his fellow executive team, and the talented employees across the world who ensure that the company remains a leading disruptor in the sports betting sector.
Previously, Becher held an eight-year stint with Interwetten, an operator, where he helped the company achieve sustained growth over the years. He also worked as an independent investor and advisor prior to confirming his intention to join Kambi Group.
