The recently concluded SBC Summit in Lisbon, Portugal has been celebrated as a massive success. The event drew in 25,000 attendees and hosted hundreds of speakers around important and pivotal industry topics, addressing challenges, and creating opportunities in the process.
SBC Summit Lisbon managed to notch up a 70% increase in its attendance, bringing one of the biggest crowds of industry professionals and insiders in one place, but also organizing the gathering in such a way as to be impactful and deliver value for all attendees.
Touted as "The Greatest Show in Gaming," the gambling industry leadership has showered the event with praises, owing to its unique format, and functional design that allows real industry challenges to be addressed and important talks about innovation, technology, regulation, and responsible gambling to be promptly addressed in earnest.
Commenting on the event, Playtech COO Shimon Akad has welcomed the opportunity to be part of the event, calling it "the industry standard." He was not alone in thinking highly of the format, with his colleague, Casumo COO Tim de Borle, suggesting that SBC Summit 2024 has taken things to "a whole new level."
Bally’s Corporation VP of Global Responsible Gaming Tammi Barlow-Marang was similarly pleased, and even overwhelmed by the size of the exhibition – "I was unsure of what to expect when I heard there would be 25,000 attendees. […] But it is so well executed—everything is clean, entertaining, and educational."
The wave of positive feedback has moved SBC Founder & CEO Rasmus Sojmark to also share a few words about the success of the gathering, and the new benchmark it seeks to set for industry gatherings.
"We knew this event would be a hit; we put everything into making that happen! I’m beyond thankful for all the incredible feedback from exhibitors, sponsors, speakers, attendees, media, and even the Portuguese officials who made us feel so welcome. It’s been an unforgettable experience to see it all unfold," he said fondly of the exhibition which wrapped up over two weeks ago but still remains imprinted on the minds of attendees.
Among the prominent individuals to offer praise was also Pedro Machado, Portugal’s Secretary of State for Tourism, who was happy with the event and was part of some of the more prominent discussions as well as helping set the tone of the event. Machado said that SBC Summit Lisbon is an event not to miss and confirmed that he was looking forward to the next edition in 2025.
BetBlocker Founder & Trustee Duncan Garvie hailed the efforts that have gone into hosting the Player Protection Zone. Garvie said: "The Player Protection Zone is a great initiative that’s helping to highlight a lot of the social good and harm minimization efforts going on in the sector. It’s great to see conference organizers, getting involved and ensuring that these initiatives get the attention they deserve."
SBC Summit has been diversifying the focus of the event, with Player Protection becoming one of its pillars, and of increasing importance to the industry as a whole. With 600 exhibitors for the edition in 2024, the gathering broke all records.
Yet, this is not the end of the road for the SBC Summit, as the Lisboa event, due on September 16-18, 2025, is set to host even more people – up to 30,000 delegates.
