The Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) and DraftKings, one of the leading sports betting operators in the United States with roots in both traditional sports wagering and fantasy sports, have announced a new multi-year partnership that will focus on boosting engagement with fans by leveraging the two verticals.
As a result, DraftKings has been selected as the Official Sports Betting and Daily Fantasy Partner for the WNBA. This new stitch-up comes as the interest in women’s sports in general, and the WNBA in particular, has been steadily climbing. This tie-up comes only several years after DraftKings became an Official Sports Betting Partner for the NBA in 2021.
Commenting on this opportunity, DraftKings President for North America, Matt Kalish, has welcomed the chance to work closely with one of the most significant sports organizations in the country, and the world.
"It is a priority for us to deliver the most engaging WNBA content to DraftKings’ platforms and through our collaboration with the WNBA this season, we will be able to enhance the experience for millions of our customers and WNBA fans," Kalish explained, outlining the immediate plans of the partnership.
The WNBA has been enjoying renewed interest, as viewership interest, and sports betting in particular, have been climbing. The tie-up should lead to stronger digital engagement as well as media exposure for both DraftKings and the WNBA.
Moving forward, DraftKings will have access to league rights as well as team IP, helping it work on several different projects, such as marketing and activation campaigns, as well as gain the upper hand for events such as the AT&T WNBA All-Star Game.
Thanks to its access to league data and feeds, DraftKings will be able to further enhance the experience for league fans, providing them with a more immersive experience, both in terms of viewership, but similarly as part of betting and gambling contests. Naturally, DraftKings is committed to helping raise the profile of women’s sports.
"This opportunity for DraftKings to lean in with us to support women’s sports will welcome more fans to the WNBA. We’re looking forward to working alongside DraftKings to further enhance innovation and equity in women’s sports," said WNBA Chief Growth Officer Colie Edison.
Apart from vowing to support spots, maintain responsible gambling as one of its key priorities, and further expand the reach of its verticals and products, DraftKings has also embarked on a series of ambitious merger and acquisition moves, first announcing a $750m deal for Jackpocket, and then rumors swirling that it is possibly after Simplebet, another betting platform, as well.
