A recent Casino Guru Forum poll has looked into player motivation when choosing an online casino. Does it have to do with the Safety Index of a casino, a particular selection of games, or something else altogether?
As it turns out, the majority of players were interested in the type of bonus offers provided by casinos more than anything else. Out of 1,571 total votes, 57% of respondents, or 894 registered Casino Guru Forum users said that they cared about the type of promotion offered by a casino before they selected that casino.
Up next, came the number of games, and game variety, with 18% or 282 people that it was their preferred way of choosing a casino. Not least, 16% of respondents, or 257 of the total votes, suggested that people cared about fast withdrawals, which have become an increasingly important part of the iGaming experience over the past years.
Trust & reputation came last with 9% of the votes, or 138 of the people. The Casino Guru Forum poll reveals interesting trends in player attitudes when it comes to the choice of casinos.
Although the Casino Guru Safety Index is designed to help steer players towards more reputable casinos overall, to many players a bonus offer may be all it takes to pick a casino over a casino with a better overall reputation.
There has been a lot of talk about the importance of reputation and the accessibility of payment methods in recent years, but these arguments are now belied by the latest data collated by the Casino Guru Forum poll which has reached out to a community of hundreds of thousands of players.
Interestingly, the players who responded not just to the poll but also with a post in the forum seemed to express incredulity at the results. Forum user nortonj00 said:
"Well, it was strange for me to see the results as people are more interested in bonuses than in trust and reputation. Seems kinda weird. You should always know who takes your money, and even more - from whom you might take it back."
Another user from Finland was similarly peculiar as to why the majority of people would pick bonus offers over a casino’s reputation.
This outlined another interesting trend – that players who are more involved, i.e. would vote in a poll and then follow up with sharing their opinions, may have a better understanding of what is important when choosing an online casino.
At a time when there has been a lot of talk about improving casino reputation for the better and ensuring a smoother payment experience, the results point to the entrenched role of bonuses in driving player decisions.
