Bet365 and the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) have reached a settlement which will see the British operator pay $33,000.
The settlement came after the regulator discovered inconsistencies in the timing of certain bet365 wagers that were placed by customers with the online sportsbook.
Bet365 is said to have accepted wagers on a mixed martial arts event that had been completed a week earlier. According to the company, this was a genuine mistake which led to the re-listing of the fight in question. However, the DGE has also taken issue with certain wagers that bet365 was not supposed to offer in the first place, citing "prohibited events."
Nevertheless, bet365 has concurred with the regulator’s finding and took immediate remedial actions to demonstrate its goodwill in settling the issue quietly and amicably.
In a statement released by DGE’s Interim Director, Mary Jo Flaherty, the regulator ordered the $33,000 settlement as the appropriate enforcement action.
This incident comes at the tail of a similar case which saw bet365 make another faux pas earlier this year, just a few weeks in fact. Bet365 was targeted by the DGE in a separate investigation in which the regulator alleged that the operator had changed the odds after accepting 200 wagers.
There was a total of 13 affected events as a result, and the company reduced the winning payouts until the watchdog stepped in and forced the operator to pay $519,323.32 as restitution to players.
The DGE dismissed the operator’s defense which stated that the original odds were an "obvious" mistake, arguing that the onus was on the company to ensure that its processes are streamlined and worked well enough to prevent such mistakes.
