At the recently concluded SBC Summit, Casino Guru News had the opportunity to catch up with Valeriia Virchenko, Head of Talent Acquisition at RedCore, diving into the topic of what makes aspiring candidates in the iGaming industry stand out and secure their jobs.
What are the skills, qualities, and competencies that individuals need to thrive in this highly challenging and dynamic field? Virchenko is a seasoned recruiter who also has a long list of criteria she looks into.
She quotes honesty, ability to work in a structured way, and what they tend to talk about. Yet, Virchenko’s experience has long taught her that you cannot judge a candidate over a single meeting, and it’s a process that involves multiple meetings.
Virchenko is also incredibly insightful that recruitment is a two-way street. "People are often like a stone," she says, acknowledging that candidates also have qualms of their own and even mistrust towards recruiters, but this is a normal human response.
Naturally, there is also a consideration of the candidate’s hard and soft skills. Virchenko also recommends that any candidate who wants to succeed should also fill out their LinkedIn profile. This is definitely a green flag.
As to red flags, while it’s perfectly normal for people to apply for multiple positions, they should always try to tailor their CVs to the job they are seeking to secure. "It’s a big mistake to send only one CV to everyone," Virchenko notes, while also ensuring that there are no misspelt names or misleading information.
Yet, if candidates are crunched for time, there is a simple and time-tested way to stand out quickly: "Do some research about the company. Lack of curiosity is a big red flag for us – do your homework," Virchenko advises.
As to whether conferences help with the recruitment funnel, Virchenko prefers to stick to what she knows from experience – SBC Summit is an opportunity to network and meet C-level people, and people who may shift their place in the industry over time. These types of connections are valuable and important, and they yield the best results.
But even then, anyone who is keen to find out more about RedCore, as a potential employee, is always welcome to come to the booths and stands at such conferences and present their skills as well as share what their next job would be. This applies not just to RedCore, of course. Job seekers should not hesitate to put themselves out there.
A golden tip that Virchenko can give to candidates is: "Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself."
