Martin Lycka: “We want to achieve personalized and individualized responsible gambling tools”

In this interview with Martin Lycka, SVP for American Regulatory Affairs and Responsible Gambling at Entain, we touch on a range of topics, but primarily, we focus on finding out more about responsible gambling and player protection. We catch up with Martin at SBC Summit Barcelona 2023.

Martin speaks about sports gambling regulation and responsible gambling, and applauds the regulated market in the United States, which has made it possible to educate athletes in the first place but cautions that access to insider information proves a huge temptation for people involved with sports.

"Don’t do it, don’t bet," says Martin, or "at least wait until you retire" he says in jest, seemingly addressing athletes who might be tempted by sports gambling and how accessible it has become.

There are things that can improve, and Martin phrases it as such: "I suppose, the one issue that we haven’t corrected yet is player’s participation in a lot of surveys and other forms of sounding out how players may be feeling while playing, but it’s extremely difficult."

Martin also talks about different generations. Younger generations tend to spend money on ethical businesses more so on unethical ones, which has also proven a motivator for the industry.
