Free Agency season might be over the madness, but there is still plenty of late (and shrewd) business to be done.

Casino Guru News spoke to NFL insider, Jason La Canfora, who broke down the remaining weeks of ‘silly season’.

Key highlights from La Canfora:

  • ‘I keep getting told that the Chiefs really like Trent Williams, but Taylor Decker could be their move.’
  • One GM told La Canfora: "I’d take Darren Waller over Mark Andrews, straight up."
  • "Zeitler isn’t an All Pro candidate anymore, but he still provides sound and steady play, he is very cerebral and he understands what head coach Dan Campbell wants out of his guys."

La Canfora: Where sources and I think the likes of Decker, Waller and Jordan will end up this spring

The most accomplished unrestricted free agent still on the market with the NFL draft now less than a month away isn’t really up for debate.

Aaron Rodgers is one of the greatest quarterbacks in league history, and while the version of him that would suit up in 2026 (should he opt to continue playing) is a shell of that, he still carries some cache. There is no real intrigue about what’s next for him, however. He will either return to the Steelers, or, it’s widely expected in NFL front offices, he will retire. Other options are slim to none. And, well, he’s hardly the only Hall of Famer still on the street available to sign with any team.

If you are a player with that kind of resume, you are signing with a playoff team or waiting it out. If you have played this game at the highest levels for as long as the better free agents have – and have already put your body through what they have – the decision to continue playing requires a competitive team to be on the other end of the phone. At this point, some clubs might be most inclined to wait until after the draft to determine which areas of their roster still need repair or fortification, but it stands to reason that at least one significant player not yet on an NFL roster will end up helping sway the balance of power.

There are some potential matches between a former Pro-Bowl caliber performer, now in his 30s, and teams that harbor legitimate contending status. And, well, there is another natural connection between a player of that caliber and a team not nearly as ready to challenge for a Lombardi Trophy. Several personnel executives pointed to these as potentially impactful matches of talent and team:

DL Cam Jordan and the Packers – Jordan is going to Canton, Ohio one day. He is coming off a 10.5 sack season and after spending years in the abyss with the Saints (post-Sean Payton regime) he is driven by a ring above all else. At age 37, this might be it. Green Bay badly needs fortification to its line, and with Micah Parsons injured for the first half of the season, having Jordan to move around inside and outside would be huge. He is incredibly durable and if they kept him on a pitch count he is precisely the type of leader you would want for a postseason run. He’s opined about preferring to play for a warm-weather team … but money talks.

LT Taylor Decker and the Chiefs - I continue to hear the Chiefs have a major thing for 49ers left tackle Trent Williams and are ready to pounce if/when he is available in trade. The 49ers remain in a contract impasse with Williams about reworking that date. Decker would be an upgrade over what they have been getting out of the left tackle position. They have been fine with short-term tackles to hold things together and grabbing him now would allow the Chiefs not to have to perhaps lean into the offensive line department as high in the draft. He brings a brawling mentality Kansas City could use and I wouldn’t take any chances here with Patrick Mahomes coming off the first serious injury of his career. "They could always draft one," one GM told me, "but I think (head coach) Andy (Reid) would prefer a veteran." Can they really trust second-year Justin Simmons and Jaylon Moore as their starting tackles with Mahomes coming off major season-ending surgery?

TE Darren Waller and the Ravens – Waller has come back from retirement and missed plenty of time in recent years, but then again he was toiling with terrible Giants and Dolphins teams. He didn’t come back to go out like that. And while not many might recall it, Waller began his career with Baltimore before the Raiders plucked him off the practice squad. Waller was at a low point personally then, and overcame addiction to become a star with the Raiders. Baltimore lost its most athletic and best tight end in free agency, Mark Andrews isn’t agile or mobile anymore and QB Lamar Jackson desperately needs more big targets. They’ll draft one or two, but Waller finished strong in Miami last year and won’t cost much. "I’d take Waller over Andrews, straight up" one NFL GM told me.

G Kevin Zeitler and the Lions – You can go home again. Detroit’s offensive line, once the envy of the NFL, is a bit of a mess right now. They need fortification at tackle and big help on the inside. Zeitler isn’t an All Pro candidate anymore, but he still provides sound and steady play, he is very cerebral and he understands what head coach Dan Campbell wants out of his guys from his prior stint with the Lions. He plays with the physicality this staff demands.
