Texas: Bexar County Sheriff’s Office seizes illegal gambling machines

Law enforcement in Bexar County, Texas, executed a search warrant and arrested several people while seizing more than two dozen illegal gambling machines.

Tip about suspected illegal gambling leads police to a private home

As announced by the media outlet KSAT, the police operation was executed by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

Officers raided a Bexar County home at the 100 block of Esma Street and discovered what was likely an illegal gambling venue.

On site, police found and seized 26 illegal gambling machines. Six people were arrested by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, of whom three had existing warrants for their arrest.

Concerningly, officers also found and seized an undisclosed amount of drugs.

The police report doesn’t reveal whether or not cash was found and seized and since whenthe private home operated as an illegal gambling establishment.

Still, according to Deputy Noel Diaz with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, the same private residence was raided for "similar criminal activity" a couple of years ago, in 2022.

The suspects arrested in this criminal case could face charges of keeping a gambling place, possession of gambling devices, and gambling promotion.

Depending on the circumstances, such crimes can be classified as misdemeanors or felonies and oftentimes illegal gambling devices and potentially ill-gotten funds are seized.

Considering drugs were found on the premises, one or more suspects can be charged with possession or distribution, and such charges depend on the type and quantity of the seized substances.

If convicted, some suspects may face fines, probation or asset forfeiture as a penalty, while others may be sentenced to time in prison, heftier fines and supervised release.
