Maryland lottery player scores $50K win from a scratch-off ticket

Scratch-off games, along with other lottery games, offer players a chance to win five, six and in some cases seven-figure prizes with little risk.

While the play per ticket may start at $0.50 or $1, some tickets may cost $20, $30 or even $50.

Earlier this week, one lucky resident of Baltimore in Maryland, was able to pocket a five-figure prize after buying a $5 scratch-off ticket.

The fortunate player purchased his $5 ticket for the Maryland Lottery's Lots of Cash scratch-off game from Lowest Price Grocery at 3900 Frederick Avenue in Baltimore.

To his surprise, the lucky lottery player won one of the game's top prizes.

The Maryland Lottery confirmed in a statement that the lucky winner, who chose to remain anonymous, visited the lottery headquarters in Baltimore on Monday to claim his win.

When asked what plans to do with his windfall, the lottery player said he hasn't decided yet.

Still, the Baltimore resident admitted to preferring to keep his lottery win a private matter and only share the news with a few people.

Lowest Price Grocery, the retail venue that sold the winning ticket, will benefit from a bonus.

The retailer is subject to a bonus of 1% on the total win, which in this case means that the outlet will receive $500 for selling the ticket with the top prize.

Four top prizes remain in play from Lots of Cash

Although the Maryland Lottery's $5 Lots of Cash scratch-off game launched approximately two months ago, about one third of the game is already sold out.

Per data from the Lottery, after the launch of Lots of Cash on June 17, through this week, more than 31% of the scratch-off tickets have been sold.

As noted, the price per scratch-off ticket is $5. Players who purchase Lots of Cash tickets can win prizes between $5 and $50,000.

At the launch of the game, there were a total of eight $50,000 prizes.

The latest win marked the fourth grand prize from Lots of Cash which means that four more $50,000 prizes remain up for grabs.

Upon the launch of Lots of Cash, there were also 14 prizes of $5,000 each. Currently, ten such prizes remain up for grabs, as well as many more within the lower prize tiers.

The overall odds of winning a prize from Maryland Lottery's Lots of Cash is 1 in 3.92.
