Grandparents in Australia surprised by life-changing $4.8m Set for Life win

A couple of grandparents were in disbelief after winning a life-changing Set for Life prize.

The incredibly fortunate Airlie Beach couple held the single division one winning entry in Australia for Set for Life's latest draw.

The win marks the third Set for Life prize in March won in Queensland

On Thursday, the Set for Life draw 3885 was held. The March 26, 2026, draw produced winning numbers 15, 9, 35, 29, 27, 40 and 11, along with supplementary numbers 38 and 31 drawn.

A single ticket across Australia matched the winning numbers on Thursday's Set for Life draw to take down the game's top prize for a sweet AU$20,000 ($13,740) per month for 20 years, or a total of AU$4.8m ($3.3m).

The fortunate couple's winning 5-game QuickPick entry was purchased via The Lott's official website.

Interestingly, the Airlie Beach couple's winning entry marked the third win from Set for Life in Queensland recorded this month.

Earlier in the week, a Bribie Island couple hit the game's top prize for AU$20,000 for the next two decades, while earlier in the month, a single dad from Morayfield also won the game's life-changing prize.

"I almost didn’t answer the phone"

When an official from The Lott tried to contact the fortunate couple, they nearly missed the call with the life-changing announcement.

Overwhelmed with excitement, the woman exclaimed: "Are you kidding me? Stop it! I’m going to cry. Oh my god! I can’t believe it. I feel like vomiting."

She added that her husband is also in disbelief, admitting that he is crying and laughing at the same time.

"Thank you! I almost didn’t answer the phone. I was just getting ready to pick up my grandchildren," the woman added.

The lucky player then said that she wants to call her family immediately and give them the good news.

The Airlie Beach grandmother explained that they will celebrate with champagne early, while her husband will have to quit his job "for good."

The incredibly lucky woman said that she has been playing Set for Life for years and always told herself that she can't win if she doesn't buy a ticket.

Speaking about the prize, the woman said it is completely life-changing and will help her and her family greatly.

Focusing on the future, the woman said that she has previously planned to go on a vacation overseas and thanks to the unexpected windfall, she will now make this dream come true.
