Fortunate man to upgrade honeymoon plans after CA$500K lottery win

An incredibly fortunate man will be looking forward to upgrading his honeymoon after scoring a six-figure lottery prize.

That's the story of one Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada man who scored a sweet prize from a recent Lotto Max draw.

Extra feature brings once-in-a-lifetime prize

The fortunate player's winning ticket was purchased at Safeway on Fortune Drive in Kamloops.

Entering the Lotto Max draw on October 16, 2026, the Kamloops resident emerged as the winner of a CA$500,000 ($357,200) Extra prize.

Across British Columbia, since the start of the year, players have won more than CA$145m ($103.6m) from Lotto Max and CA$44m+ ($31.4m) from Extra.

An extra CA$1 per play in Lotto Max, Lotto 6/49 and BC/49 grants players a chance to win up to CA$500,000.

Tickets for the popular lottery games can either be purchased online via PlayNow.com, the British Columbia Lottery Corporation's (BCLC) official mobile app or at retailers across the province.

The lottery windfall comes as an early wedding gift

The lucky lottery player was enjoying his morning coffee when he remembered he purchased a ticket recently.

Deciding to check the ticket, the man was shocked to realize that he had in fact won CA$500,000 ($357,200).

In an interview for the BCLC, the fortunate Kamloops man recalled how he felt right after the win, saying: "Shock, disbelief, excitement, all the adjectives! Being younger and building the foundation for the future is huge."

The fortunate man then decided to tell his fiancée the good news.

"She was shocked and couldn’t believe it either," her future husband said.

However, the man then recalled his future wife scanning his ticket once again with the lottery app and receiving another confirmation about the unexpected life-changing prize.

While the Kamloops resident said he didn't have immediate plans for his newfound fortune, he said that he's about to get married next year, so the prize will help him upgrade his honeymoon plans.
