The leading sports entertainment company with a strong presence in North America, PrizePicks, is planning to launch its peer-to-peer offering in New York, after recently obtaining a much-anticipated license in the state.

PrizePicks obtains an interactive fantasy sports license in another state

Earlier this week, the company confirmed it has successfully secured an interactive fantasy sports operating license in New York.

PrizePick's license in the Empire State was awarded by the state gambling watchdog, the New York State Gaming Commission.

The milestone achievement follows a legal settlement between PrizePicks and the Commission from last year.

Since then, the latter collaborated with the state's gambling watchdog to ensure the compliance of its new peer-to-peer contests with the strict fantasy sports regulations in New York.

This was a necessary move, considering that the state overhauled its requirements for fantasy sports back in 2023.

Awarding PrizePicks with an interactive fantasy sports license, New York became the 16th state to officially ratify that the company's contests can be offered as "games of skill" under its established laws for fantasy sports, Casino Guru News learned from a press release.

Earlier this year, PrizePicks was recognized with the prestigious iCAP accreditation from the National Council on Problem Gambling.

The milestone accreditation highlighted the company's dedication to responsible gambling, positioning PrizePicks among other leading gaming companies.

Jason Barclay, PrizePicks' Head of Public Policy and Chief Legal Officer, said about the latest milestone: "We want to thank the New York State Gaming Commission for their collaboration and recognition of our peer-to-peer offering as a fantasy sports contest."

Moreover, he pointed out: "We worked diligently to design a game that meets the Commission's rigorous standards, and New York's decision underscores the idea that innovation in fantasy sports can thrive within a clear regulatory framework."

Mike Ybarra, PrizePicks' CEO, added: "New York is home to some of the most passionate sports fans in the country, and we know they will be excited to have PrizePicks back."

Finally, the executive said that the company is thrilled to deliver its services to sports fans and bettors alike.
