GamCare has picked and appointed a new person to the top position with Victoria Corbishley joining the organization as the Chief Executive Officer moving forward. Corbishley is a well-seasoned veteran who has previously worked for the British Red Cross and who has ample experience in healthcare transformation and service delivery.
In an official press statement released by the charity, Corbishley’s credentials have established her as a person who is experienced in dealing with complex health systems and has a track record for driving systemic improvements at scale, focusing on an evidence-based and person-centered approach.
She joins GamCare at an important time for the industry, with the United Kingdom looking to expand the treatment options available to at-risk and problem gamblers, as well as raise public awareness for the issue. Commenting on her appointment, Corbishley had this to say:
"I am honoured to join GamCareat this crucial time. Last year alone, GamCare’s National Gambling Helpline received over 55,000 calls and online chats. The charity also directly delivered more than 9,100 structured treatment sessions, referred over 7,100 individuals to other regional support providers, and 64,000 people participated in the charity’s education programmes."
She noted that the numbers highlighted the crucial role that GamCare played in offering support to those who needed it the most and in helping reduce harm across the board. Under her leadership, she will strive to ensure that GamCare delivers the life-changing interventions that help protect consumers.
Corbishley’s appointment also comes at a time when GamCare has reported a 25% increase in calls to its gambling helpline, indicating that there is a growing need to plow additional resources into addressing gambling-related harm.
GamCare has also formerly embraced the idea of a statutory levy that would redistribute part of gambling companies’ revenue into various responsible gambling initiatives and cover the costs for research, treatment, and other related measures.
GamCare has also been able to track particular trends in problem gambling, such as the rise in problem gambling incidents around the Christmas holidays, for example. All of this and more will now be addressed under Corbishley’s stewardship as GamCare continues to drive new insights.
Chair of the Board Margot Daly also welcomed Corbishley’s appointment, hailing her leadership across various prominent health organizations in the country.
"I look forward to working with Victoria as we continue to expand GamCare’s impact and ensure our services remain responsive to the needs of those we support," Daly wrapped up.
