The San Francisco 49ers are off to a strong start in the 2026/27 National Football League (NFL) season after a win against the Los Angeles Rams.

In light of the start of the new football season, Casino Guru News had the chance to talk to Jason La Canfora, the award-winning NFL reporter, analyst and insider, who spoke about the key role of the 49ers coach, Kyle Shanahan.

In an exclusive interview, the NFL analyst and insider said: "We've heard a lot about Mike Tomlin and what teams would be willing to get, to do to get Mike Tomlin's services if he wants to leave broadcasting. Kyle Shanahan is that same caliber of coach."

La Canfora continued: "And Kyle Shanahan, if after this season doesn’t feel great about the direction of this franchise, well, he’s going to have options."

The League insider pointed to the 49ers decision to split with coach Jim Harbaugh late in 2014, explaining that it is not uncommon for NFL franchises to "shed some salary" in order to build draft picks.

The insider mentioned the alternatives for Shanahan, mentioning the Washington Commanders where his farther, Mike Shanahan, holds the role of head coach and where other former 49ers like Adam Peters and Jayden Daniels are.

"Regardless, Kyle Shanahan will be taking stock of that organization just as much as that organization is going to be taking stock of where they’re moving forward," La Canfora said in conclusion.

Although Kyle Shanahan’s contract with the 49ers was due in 2027, a recent report from ESPN confirmed he signed a multiyear contract extension.

Details regarding the contract extension are yet to be public. Still, the strategic development stabilizes the 49ers further.
