With MLB Opening Day just around the corner, fans across North America are ready to get back into the game after months of missing the unmatched thrill. But for some, it means mentally preparing to interact with the less pleasant fanbases, whether at the ballpark, a sports bar, or even on social media.
Amid the 2026 season, Casino Guru USA conducted a survey of 3,340 MLB fans throughout North America to find out which fans are the most (and least) disrespectful. From, line cutting, to view blocking and foul language, we uncovered where each fanbase ranks.
From blocking your view of the game to hurling insults at you, you can count on these top five teams to outrage you with their level of disrespect.
1. The Chicago White Sox
The Chicago White Sox rank as the most disrespectful fanbase, scoring 95/100. A third (33%) of fans admit to staying in the same spot while watching a game despite blocking others’ views - the highest in the league - while 37% confess to insulting opposing fans in person. Self-awareness is low, with just 1 in 15 identifying their own team as the most disrespectful. Together, this points to a fan culture where disruptive behaviour is common but rarely acknowledged.
2. The New York Yankees
The New York Yankees rank second, with a score of 80/100. Even with such a high score, Yanks fans are blissfully unaware, with them rating themselves a 3.3 out of 5 for respectfulness (5 being very respectful) – all while being voted the most disrespectful by other fans (25%).
3. The Miami Marlins
It’s bad news for the Miami Marlins fans, who ranked third on the disrespect scale with a score of 78/100. If you find yourself waiting in line for food or drink among Miami Marlins supporters, there’s a good chance they’ll beat you to the front, with 1 in 3 confessing to cutting in line.
4. The Arizona Diamondbacks
The Arizona Diamondbacks land themselves in fourth place, scoring 76/100. Confrontations are likely with Diamondbacks fans, with more than half (58%) revealing that they argue with opponents’ supporters, both online and in-person.
5. The Boston Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox claim the fifth spot with a score of 72/100, but they did give themselves the second-lowest score in the league of 3.2 out of 5 when asked to rate their respectfulness. Almost one quarter (24%) have used profanity towards supporters of a rival team – the sixth-highest overall.
On the flipside, the study revealed the MLB fans that uphold their respect the most, even when tensions are rising.
1. The Minnesota Twins
Minnesota Twins fans have been named the most respectful in the league with the lowest score of 37/100 – and they’re proud of it too, with the highest self-reported respectfulness score of 4.2 out of 5. When it comes to insulting opponents’ fans while watching games, 94% steer clear.
2. The San Diego Padres
The San Diego Padres are next in second place, scoring 40/100. Fans are the least foul-mouthed, with 93% reporting that they’ve never used profanity towards a rival supporter, even in the sport’s most heated moments.
3. The Pittsburgh Pirates
The third most respectful is the Pittsburgh Pirates fanbase, with a score of 42/100. Fans have the fourth-lowest rate of trolling the opponents, with 90% claiming that they’ve never trash-talked them on their social media accounts.
4. The St. Louis Cardinals
In fourth is the St. Louis Cardinals, scoring 48/100. Cardinals’ fans keep the insults while watching games to a minimum with 91% reporting that they’ve never done so, and they believe the New York Yankees to be the most disrespectful at 24%.
5. The Milwaukee Brewers
Fifth place is taken by the Milwaukee Brewers, scoring 49/100 – and fans prefer to wait their turn in lines for food and drinks, with 97% saying that they have never cut in front.
One clear takeaway from the findings is that rival teams from the same city often sit far apart in the rankings. The New York Yankees place 2nd, while the Mets fall to 16th, and the Los Angeles Angels rank 7th compared to the Dodgers in 15th. It suggests that geography alone doesn’t shape fan behavior, instead, it’s how supporters engage with the game, and each other, plays a far bigger role.
In March 2026, we conducted a survey on 3,340 MLB fans across America and Canada, asking about their behavior while watching or attending games as well as towards fans of other teams.
The responses were indexed using the weightings below, which were then used to create a final disrespect score out of 100 for every team.
