At the recently concluded SBC Summit, Casino Guru News caught up with Amanda Brewer, a prominent iGaming executive, and a long-standing member of the Canadian Gaming Association with more than 20 years of industry-related experience.
In our interview, Brewer argues the case for why Canada could serve as a textbook example for other jurisdictions interested in launching their own iGaming and sports betting gamblingframeworks, and how they can achieve this.
Her remarks come at a time when a second province, Alberta, is preparing to roll out a regulated market that follows in the footsteps of Ontario.
The conversation touches on the pillars of robust regulation as well as the importance of a regulatory regime that addresses advertising and responsible gambling heads-on.
Brewer touches on the growing ecosystem built around the sports betting and gaming industry, with Canadian institutions of higher learning now setting up training programs to train future professionals who will be involved in the industry.
She also touches on how the industry is adapting and learning from previous experiences, with Canada set to tap into Ontario’s experience especially now that Alberta is poised to launch its gambling framework in 2025.
Brewer emphasizes that with Ontario now setting the standards, other provinces will adapt and launch their own regulatory framework before long, with companies already experienced in the market.
Brewer also said that responsible gambling has been an important part of the Ontario regulatory framework, and as she put it "prior to regulation – who knew what was going on." Ontario has also been moving in the right direction, selecting a vendor to administer responsible gambling services and more.
In its entirety, the full conversation with Brewer is insightful, educational, and addresses some of the hottest topics in Canadian iGaming and future regulation.
