The Michigan Lottery has had some exciting news to report, as a Charlevoix County woman has been able to claim a truly life-changing prize from the lottery’s Millionaire For Life game.
The game’s prize will now see the winner receive the lump sum option estimated at $2.2m from the lottery, with the player choosing to remain anonymous. Regardless, the lottery was able to release some details about how it all came to pass.
For starters, the lucky winner is 66 years old, meaning that theyare truly set for life, with the winning ticket matching the 03, 15, 16, 24, and 28 winning numbers in the May 21 drawing of the game. This secured the big prize of the draw.
As to the ticket itself? It was purchased at the Mancelona North EZ Mart at 8150 US Highway 131 Northeast in Mancelona, the lottery added.
Millionaire For Life is a fairly new game, only introduced in Michigan in 2026, and it has already been a hit. As to the winner? She didn’t really go all in on the game when it first came out, but rather stuck to a sporadic schedule, buying the occasional ticket.
The one she bought in May apparently paid off, and she is now planning some significant lifestyle upgrades with her newfound wealth. The money will go towards buying a house, a boat, and a car.
But there was something special about the day when she won - she reported "feeling an urge to go and buy the ticket," and so she did.
"The next day I scanned my ticket at a store, and a message came up to contact the lottery office. I thought the scanner was broken, so I went out to my car to check the numbers on MichiganLottery.com.
I saw a winning ticket was purchased in Mancelona, and then I saw I’d matched all five numbers. I yelled: ‘I just won $2.2 million!’ and did a happy dance in my car," the winner added, describing the moments she realized her ticket had won.
The game allows players to opt for either a $100,000 over 20 years or claim a lump sum option of $2.2m.
Recently, a 27-year-old-man from Michigan followed his lottery road trip ritual and ended up winning $2m himself!
