What seemed like an unlucky ticket delivers $1.05m prize

One fortunate lottery player was surprised by a life-changing jackpot from a ticket he considered "unlucky."

That's the story of an Oakland County man who won the progressive jackpot from one of Michigan Lottery's Fast Cash games.

Currently, there are more than a dozen Fast Cash games available to customers across Michigan.

The price per play varies from $2 up to $30, and players have a chance to win a part of or an entire progressive jackpot instantly.

Each Fast Cash ticket prints the jackpot amount, informing the players what the top prize is for grabs.

The jackpot can be won at any time and will continue to grow until won, then, a new top prize starts to grow.

The Lucky Oakland County man purchased his ticket at the Speedway gas station on 22380 Pontiac Trail in South Lyon.

The winner didn't actually pick the type of Fast Cash ticket but instead asked the cashier to give him one.

Interestingly, the man then scored the $1.05m progressive jackpot from the Detroit Lions Rush For Riches Fast Cash game.

Each Fast Cash game is played instantly, which means there is no waiting for a drawing, and tickets cannot sell out.

Last year, lottery players across Michigan won more than $54m from Fast Cash games.

The winner didn’t have luck with the Detroit Lions game

The 68-year-old winner, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed that he often purchases lottery tickets while stopping for gas and this time he saw the Fast Cash jackpot has grown significantly, which is why he wanted to try his luck.

"When I buy Fast Cash tickets, I hand the cashier money and tell them to give me any of the Fast Cash games, but lately I’ve been saying any except the Detroit Lions game because I hadn’t been having luck with it," admitted the winner in an interview with an official from the Michigan Lottery.

Interestingly, on the day he won the jackpot from the Detroit Lions Rush For Riches Fast Cash game, the player forgot to tell the cashier this was the exact ticket he didn't want to buy.

"I never check my tickets right away, so I folded it up and put it in my pocket," the player added.

The next morning, the player decided to check his Fast Cash ticket and was shocked to realize that he had won the game's top prize.

He then gave the ticket to his wife when she passed near him and told her: "You're not going to believe this!"

Moments later, the winner said that his wife saw the jackpot win and started crying.

The fortunate Oakland County man admitted that he couldn't stop thinking about how glad he is with the fact that he forgot to tell the cashier not to give him a Detroit Lions Fast Cash ticket.

Asked about his plans for his newfound fortune, the 68-year-old man said he will help his family.
