A Texas man working as a truck driver who recently visited Maryland was surprised by a life-changing prize.
That's the story of a fortunate lottery player who buys tickets across the country while driving.
The incredibly lucky man has had a long haul and decided to visit friends in Washington County, Maryland.
Speaking to an official from the Maryland Lottery, the winner explained that when travelling, he usually plans stops where he can purchase lottery tickets across the country.
However, in the case of his most recent win, it was entirely luck and no planning whatsoever.
"I was grocery shopping and the lottery was definitely not on my list. But then I saw the vending machine," the Texas man explained.
Outlining that he usually buys $10 scratch-off tickets, but when grocery shopping in Hagerstown, the man decided to treat himself and picked the $30 Ace of Spades ticket.
Admitting that he didn't plan to buy lottery tickets but saw the machine, the man said: "I decided to splurge."
Minutes later, the man was back in his truck and started scratching off the ticket.
To the player's surprise and shock, he scratched the first number and revealed a $400 match.
However, he then scratched another one, matching $5,000, then $400.
As it turned out, every number on his ticket matched a winning number with a prize.
But things turned really exciting when the Texas man scratched off a 200X symbol, adding all of the winnings to the Ace of Spades' top prize of $2m.
Asked about his plans for this unexpected fortune, the lucky player said he intends to share the winnings with his family.
Still, he added that next time he visits Hagerstown, he will surely stop by the place where he purchased the ticket, Martin’s grocery store at 1729 Dual Highway.
It was back in September 2025 when the Maryland Lottery rolled out the Ace of Spades ticket.
Each $30 ticket grants players a chance to win a prize between $30 and $2m.
The $2m top prize win marked the first of a total of three top prizes from Ace of Spades.
Initially, Ace of Spades also offered three tier-two prizes of $50,000 each as well, but now, only two remain in play.
A tier-three prize from the $30 ticket pays $5,000 and there are 415 such prizes in play.
Within the lower prize tiers, between $400 and $30, hundreds of thousands of prizes are up for grabs.
The overall chance of winning any prize from the scratch-off game are 1 in 2.73.
