  • Earlier this month, police discovered a deceased woman in a hotel room at the Sky Dancer Casino and Resort
  • The victim was found inside a hotel room where a 58-year-old man was staying, making him a prime suspect for the crime
  • This week, the suspect was charged with second-degree murder

A 58-year-old man, accused of stabbing a woman fatally at a hotel and casino resort in North Dakota, was charged in federal court on Tuesday this week.

Homicide results in charges against the suspect

The crime that allegedly involves a Mandaree resident dates to January 10, 2026, when law enforcement responded to a call about a dead woman at the Sky Dancer Casino and Resort, a venue located in the forested hills of North Dakota's Turtle Mountains.

Local media reports, citing court documents, suggest that the suspect called 911 on the morning of January 10, reporting that he found a dead woman inside his hotel room.

Arriving on the crime scene, police uncovered a deceased woman, covered in blood.

The victim appeared to have multiple stab wounds, while the suspect was also covered in blood and had a wound on one of his eyes.

Questioned by police, the 58-year-old man admitted that he had no recollection of what had happened, arguing that he found the woman dead after he woke up.

Consequently, the Mandaree resident was detained, and law enforcement discovered a multi-tool on him.

Reportedly, there was blood on the knife blade of the multi-tool as well as hairs that appeared to match the victim's hair.

The suspect claimed that he gambled on the casino floor and was drinking alcohol on the night of the accident.

He said he didn't remember how the night ended, how he came back to his room or why he had blood on his clothes.

Reviewing CCTV footage, police identified the suspect, accompanied by the victim, whose identity wasn't disclosed.

The 58-year-old man was the sole person seen walking with the victim to his hotel room, where she was later found dead early in the morning.

On Tuesday, the suspect was charged with second-degree murder.

If found guilty and sentenced, the suspect may be punished with life imprisonment and a fine.

It is unclear whether or not the suspect knew the victim before the accident.
