One lucky lottery player nearly flipped the kitchen table after realizing he had just won a six-figure prize.
That's the story of a Greensboro, North Carolina, resident who scored one of the top prizes from a popular scratch-off ticket.
The fortunate man purchased his $5 Mega Bucks ticket from Frank’s Grocery on Rankin Mill Road in McLeansville.
After scratching off the ticket, the lucky lottery player was shocked to realize that he had just won one of the game's top prizes for a sweet $200,000 payday.
"I saw all those zeroes and I about flipped the kitchen table. I was like, ‘I’m about to pass out,'" the lucky winner recalled.
He wasted no time and told his wife the good news.
Unsurprisingly, her reaction was just as exciting as she started jumping and screaming with joy.
"Sometimes you just get that feeling in your heart that it’s coming," the Greensboro man said.
Moreover, he acknowledged that the lottery windfall comes at the perfect moment.
Visiting the North Carolina Education Lottery earlier this week, the fortunate man claimed his prize.
After the applicable federal and state taxes, the Greensboro man's bank account increased by $144,000 and change.
Asked about his plans for his newfound fortune, the man admitted that he wants to pay off his car and the car of his wife.
Introduced on August 30, 2024, the North Carolina Education Lottery's Mega Bucks ticket costs $5.
The game grants lottery players a chance to win prizes between $5 and $200,000.
After the most recently won top prize of $200,000, now, three such prizes remain in play.
The odds of winning the top prize from the $5 scratch off ticket are 1 in 1,234,580.
A tier-two prize awards $10,000 and there are two such prizes for grabs at odds of 1 in 617,290.
A tier-three prize from the Mega Bucks ticket pays out $1,000 and there are 15 such prizes in play.
Within the lower prize tiers between $500 and $5, many more prizes are up for grabs from Mega Bucks.
The overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 4.35.
