A lottery player felt very lucky after a $50 scratch-off ticket brought him a sweet six-figure prize.
On Tuesday, the North Carolina Education Lottery announced that one Newton resident scored a tier-two prize of $100,000 from its popular scratch-off ticket, $8 Million Money Maker.
The fortunate lottery player purchased his winning ticket at Fast Phil’s on Turnersburg Highway in Statesville.
To his surprise, he scored a tier-two prize from the $50 scratch-off for a $100,000 payday.
The Newton resident visited the Lottery headquarters on Tuesday this week to claim his big win.
Considering that state and federal taxes are applicable to lottery prizes in North Carolina, the lucky man's bank account increased by $71,764.
In an interview for an official with the North Carolina Education Lottery, the lucky winner said: "I am very, very lucky."
Recalling the moment he won the big prize, the fortunate man added: "When I told my wife how much I won, she was even more excited than me."
Jokingly, the fortunate winner added: "I’ll just give the money to my wife and let her figure out what to do with it. Whatever she decides is fine with me."
The Newton resident admitted that his wife will likely share the windfall with their three daughters.
