A woman, who was sitting on her couch and playing a digital instant game, scored a life-changing million-dollar prize on Thursday.
Earlier this week, the North Carolina Education Lottery confirmed that one incredibly fortunate woman scored a $1.7m jackpot from its popular digital instant game, The Lamp: Dark Arts.
The lucky woman, an Eden, Rockingham County resident, was sitting on her couch last week when she decided to give one of the Lottery's digital instant games a try.
She selected The Lamp: Dark Arts and at some point, while she was playing with $0.50, she won the top level "Alakazam" jackpot for a mouth-watering $1.69m payday.
The Rockingham County woman screamed with joy. Recalling the moment when speaking to an official from the North Carolina Education Lottery, she said: "I lost my voice from screaming so loud."
Moreover, the winner added: "I called my brother to wake him up and tell him. Then I drove to my sister’s house."
Undoubtedly, the jackpot win was surprising, considering the odds of winning the top prize on a $0.50 price per play are 1 in 129 million.
On Tuesday this week, the Eden woman visited the Lottery headquarters to claim her big win.
Asked about her plans for her newfound fortune, the woman admitted that she will buy a new home and added that scoring the top prize "feels wonderful."
Considering that state and federal taxes apply to lottery winnings in North Carolina, the lucky woman's bank account increased by $1,218,323.
Players of The Lamp: Dark Arts can pay a price per play starting from $0.50 up to $30.00.
The popular digital instant game grants them a chance to win a range of prizes, including a jackpot.
Depending on the price per play, the odds for winning different prizes from The Lamp: Dark Arts can vary.
A standard price point of $1.00 per play gives players a chance to win an Abra jackpot at odds of 1 in 500,000 and a Cadabra jackpot at 1 in 32,051,282.
On the other hand, the odds of winning the Alakazam jackpot, just like the one recently won by the Rockingham County woman, are 1 in 64,579,256 with a $1.00 ticket.
The overall odds of winning any prize from the game are 1 in 3.87.
