One lucky 60-year-old woman was sitting on a couple of raffle winning tickets for more than a month before realizing she won big.
On Monday, the Michigan Lottery confirmed that one Westland woman, who participated in its Super Raffle game, held two winning tickets but didn't cash them until recently.
The 60-year-old woman purchased a couple of tickets with her husband back in November.
The two tickets were bought at Admiral Petroleum #5896, located at 542 North Wayne Road in Westland.
Interestingly, despite entering the Super Raffle drawing in mid-November, the couple had totally forgotten about the two winning tickets.
Only recently, the Westland woman remembered she and her husband had bought tickets and decided to check them.
This is when they were both surprised and shocked after one of the tickets brought a life-enhancing six-figure prize.
As it turns out, the Super Raffle drawing drawn number 065230 as the winner of the $100,000 prize and this was one of the tickets held by the lucky Westland woman.
The second ticket also brought a win, which was $100.
Speaking to an official from the Michigan Lottery, the fortunate woman said: "My husband and I liked the odds of the Super Raffle game, so we bought two tickets."
Moreover, the winner explained: "We forgot we had the tickets, so it wasn’t until recently that we checked our raffle numbers on MichiganLottery.com"
The 60-year-old lucky woman recalled the moment she was checking the two tickets, explaining that one of them brought a $100 prize, while the second came back as a $100,000 winner.
"We took the ticket to the store to double check it, but it wasn’t until we went to a Lottery office to have them check it that we believed we really won. It was exhilarating," the Westland woman added.
The Michigan Lottery's Super Raffle offered a range of prizes, including a $6m top prize, as well as two $1m prizes each.
Lower-tier payouts included a dozen prizes of $100,000 each, 3,500 prizes of $500, as well as 15,000 prizes of $100 each.
