One Maryland woman, who received a tip from her sister on how to change her lottery routine, was in disbelief after scoring a sweet six-figure prize.
Earlier in the week, the Maryland Lottery confirmed that a Baltimore County woman scored a life-enhancing $50,000 prize from its popular $5 scratch-off, Money Maker.
The lucky winner purchased her ticket at High’s convenience store at 11260 Dolfield Boulevard in Owings Mills.
Interestingly, before buying the single $5 scratch-off ticket, the woman asked her sister about tips on how to win a big prize.
The winner, who works as a caretaker, recalled her sister's advice to change the venue where she purchases tickets from.
This move, in particular, ultimately brought the Baltimore County woman the sweet $50,000 prize.
After buying the lottery ticket, the woman headed back home.
While watching TV and having a snack, she decided to scratch off the $5 Money Maker ticket.
To her surprise and shock, she matched number 20 in the "Your numbers" field and the winning numbers field.
The number in question corresponded to the $50,000 prize. However, the Baltimore County player was in disbelief and even called her sister, telling her: "This doesn't look real."
Visiting the Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore earlier this week, the fortunate playercollected her big win.
Asked about her plans for the unexpected windfall, the woman admitted she will use some of the prize money to throw a holiday-themed pajama party.
It was early in December when the Maryland Lottery launched the Money Marker scratch-off ticket.
The $5 ticket grants players a chance to win a prize between $5 and $50,000.
The overall odds of winning any prize from the Money Maker ticket are 1 in 3.88.
The $50,000 prize marks the first top prize won from the Money Maker. Seven more prizes of $50,000 are also up for grabs.
What's more, the $5 scratch-off ticket offers a tier-two prize of $5,000 and there are 14 out of 14 such prizes in play.
A tier-three prize from the $5 Money Maker ticket awards $1,000 and there are 21 such prizes up for grabs.
Within the lower prize tiers, between $500 and $5, many more prizes are in play.
