A woman who went on a late-night food run and decided to try her luck with a scratch-off ticket was surprised by a life-changing win.
On Wednesday, the Michigan Lottery confirmed that one Kent County woman, who chose to remain anonymous, won the top prize from its popular instant game, Lady Luck 777.
The fortunate winner purchased her ticket at D 28 Inc., at 5 28th Street Southwest in the city of Wyoming, Michigan.
Interestingly, the 53-year-old woman went out for a late-night snack when she decided to also try her luck with a lottery ticket.
After scratching off the ticket, the woman was in shock, considering that she won the top prize from Lady Luck 777 for a sweet $1m payday.
In a statement, the Michigan Lottery's Commissioner, Suzanna Shkreli, spoke with excitement about the latest top prize.
"It's always fun to hear stories of how winners found out they won huge lottery prizes, like this one where a late-night food run turned into a $1 million win," she said.
The fortunate woman, when speaking to an official from the Michigan Lottery, recalled the night she purchased the $10 Lady Luck 777 ticket.
"While I was out, I bought a few lottery tickets and scratched them when I got home," she said.
Moreover, the Kent County woman pointed out: "It was shocking when I scratched off my Lady Luck 777 ticket and saw I'd won $1 million. I had a hard time going back to sleep that night!"
Visiting the Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim her big prize, the lucky winner faced a difficult choice: receive the full $1m prize via annuity payments or take home instantly a one-time lump cash sum that is lower.
Similar to other jackpot winning players, the Kent County woman picked the latter option and took home $693,000.
She admitted that she is yet to realize what had just happened, which is why she doesn't have immediate plans on how to spend the lottery prize.
Each $10 Lady Luck 777 ticket grants players a chance to win a prize between $10 and a top prize of $1m.
When the Michigan Lottery introduced the instant game, there were a total of three top prizes of $1m each.
However, after the win of the Kent County woman, now, two prizes of $1m each remain in play.
A tier two prize from the $10 instant game awards $1,000 and there are 381 such prizes in play, while a tier three prize awards $600 and there 712 such prizes up for grabs.
Within the lower prize tiers, more than one million prizes between $300 and $10 are still in play.
The overall odds of winning any prize from Lady Luck 777 are 1 in 3.68.
