An incredibly lucky lottery player in Michigan nearly missed a life-changing prize from an instant game.

The man, who scored one of the top prizes from the Michigan Lottery's Magnificent Millions instant game nearly missed his chance for a multi-million-dollar prize after not scratching off the entire ticket.

Man forgets to scratch entire ticket, goes numb when he sees $4m win

On Thursday, the Lottery confirmed that the winner chose to remain anonymous.

Still, what's known is that the lucky winner is a 43-year-old man from Macomb County.

The fortunate player purchased his winning ticket at 9 Mile Stop & Go on 28955 Van Dyke in Warren.

Speaking to Lottery officials the lucky man explained that he often scratches different parts of the ticket.

Initially, the man thought that he scratched off all of the fields of the Magnificent Millions instant game and he even tossed the ticket to the side.

However, once he stopped at a gas station, the man decided to have another look at the ticket to make sure he hadn't missed anything.

This was a good move that ultimately brought him a life-changing prize.

"When I scanned it and got the message to file a claim, I knew I had missed something on the ticket," the lucky man said.

Moreover, he added: "When I looked it over again, I saw a spot I forgot to scratch. When I revealed I was a $4 million winner I went numb!"

Nearly missing one of the top prizes, the man was incredibly happy that he double-checked the ticket.

Suzanna Shkreli, the Michigan Lottery's Commissioner, commented: "This incredible story is a great reminder to always double-check your tickets to make sure you don’t miss a winner."

Finally, the executive said: "Scanning your tickets at a retailer or on the Michigan Lottery app is easy and will ensure you never miss a life-changing prize!"

Two more top prizes of $4m await Magnificent Millions players

The $4m prize won by the Macomb County man was the first top prize from the Magnificent Millions instant game which launched in September.

Two more top prizes remain in play from the ticket that costs $30 per play.

The overall odds of winning any prize from the Michigan Lottery's Magnificent Millions are 1 in 3.47.

The game grants players a chance to win a prize between $30 and a top prize of $4m.

A tier-two prize awards $5,000 and while there were 222 at the launch of the scratch-off game, now 182 remain in play.

Tier-three prizes grant $2,000 and there are 278 remaining in play.
