A woman from Baltimore, Maryland, was recently celebrating her birthday. Joined by family members, the woman received one special gift, a scratch-off ticket.
To the surprise and shock of the Baltimore resident, the ticket she received granted her a five-figure win.
On Monday, the Maryland Lottery confirmed that the Baltimore City resident became the latest winner of a top prize from the popular Holiday Luck Doubler scratch-off game.
As the fortunate woman was celebrating her birthday, one of her relatives gifted her a $5 scratch-off ticket for the popular game.
While enjoying her party at a restaurant, the woman decided to scratch off the ticket.
Initially, the winner, whose name was not publicly disclosed, thought that the ticket was a non-winner.
"As I was finishing it, I was disappointed because there were no matches," the Baltimore woman recalled while speaking to Lottery officials.
However, she decided to scratch off the game's final line, uncovering one of the top prizes for a sweet $50,000 payday.
Recalling the excitement, the woman said: "Everyone went crazy when I told them I’d won $50,000."
The fortunate winner pointed out: "They all wanted to see it and touch it. It was the most hugs I’ve ever gotten," and finally acknowledged that she will never forget this day and her birthday.
The woman's winning ticket was purchased at Food Stop Mini Mart at 4820 Boiling Brook Parkway in Rockville.
Selling the top prize winning Holiday Luck Doubler scratch-off ticket, the retailer received a $500 bonus.
The Maryland Lottery introduced Holiday Luck Doubler back in mid-October last year.
The $5 scratch-off game grants players 15 chances to win a prize between $5 and $50,000.
The overall odds of winning any prize from Holiday Luck Doubler are 1 in 3.92.
At the launch of the scratch-off game, there were a total of six top prizes of $50,000 each.
After the most recent win, three top prizes remain in play.
A tier-two prize would award players $5,000 and three such prizes remain up for grabs.
On the other hand, 17 prizes of $1,000 each are also available, among other prizes smaller in size.
