A woman in Massachusetts has every reason to be happy about her lottery win, as a simple $1 bet brought her a $571,370 windfall she now intends to put to good use.
Under state rules, lottery winners’ names are revealed for the public record, though they can decline the customary photo with the oversized check.
Alternatively, a winner or a group of winners may form a trust, which allwos them to retain their privacy.
In the latest case, the Massachusetts State Lottery has confirmed the identity of the winner as one Esther Feliciano of Gloucester who has won the six-figure windfall.
Prizes over the sum of $50,000 on online games must be claimed in person at the Dorchester headquarters. Any participant in the lottery must be at least 21 years of age.
Earlier this year, someone bought and won a $25,000,000 ticket from a gas station in Cumberland Farms. The prize was claimed by a trust.
Gloucester has opted for the lump sum payment, with the winnings going towards the woman’s retirement as well as treats for her children and grandchildren, along with a family cruise.
Jackpots in Massachusetts have been a frequent sight. Several months ago, two winners managed to win $500,000 each from the same lottery game.
Joshua McConnell and Louann Briscoe appeared at the headquarters to claim their prizes.
