Maryland man uses spare change to buy lottery ticket, wins $100K

A lottery enthusiast from Maryland was pleasantly surprised by a six-figure prize after using spare change to buy a scratch-off ticket.

Earlier this week, the Maryland Lottery confirmed that one Prince George's County man scored a top prize from its popular scratch-off game, MONOPOLY X50.

The player was in disbelief after $10 ticket turned into $100K windfall

Speaking to a Lottery official, the fortunate man admitted that he usually plays Pick 3 and Pick 4 games.

In case he has some spare change left, the Clinton resident said that he usually buys scratch-off tickets with it.

That was precisely what happened recently with the lucky man who had $10 to spare.

The man purchased his ticket at Marlboro Village Exxon located at 5111 John Roger Boulevard in Upper Marlboro.

The Clinton resident admitted that when he selected the MONOPOLY X50 scratch-off, he didn't pick it for any other reason besides that it was the first he saw displayed there.

Interestingly, after the man purchased his lottery ticket, he set it aside and nearly forgot about it.

Some two weeks later, the Clinton resident decided to give the MONOPOLY x50 ticket another look and was surprised that he matched the number 54.

This number corresponded to one of the game's top prizes for a $100,000 payday.

The Prince George's County man was initially in disbelief and checked the ticket several more times.

Earlier this week, the man visited the Lottery headquarters in Baltimore to claim his windfall.

Asked by a Lottery official about his plans for his newfound fortune, the lucky man said he doesn't intend to tell anyone the big news.

Still, he admitted to planning to invest his winnings and also buy a new fence for his house.

MONOPOLY X50 offers prizes from $10 up to $100K

The cost per MONOPOLY X50 ticket is $10, with each game granting a chance for a win between $10 and a top prize of $100,000.

After the most recent win by the Prince George's County man, there are three top prizes of $100,000 each remaining in play.

A tier-two prize from MONOPOLY X50 pays out $50,000 and out of 10 such prizes, three remain up for grabs.

On the other hand, a tier-three prize awards $10,000 and out of 30 such prizes, only six remain in play.

Within the lower prize tiers between $1,000 and $10, many more prizes are up for grabs from the $10 ticket.

The overall odds of winning any prize from the MONOPOLY X50 scratch-off ticket are 1 in 3.29.
