A Maryland woman, shopping for groceries ahead of Thanksgiving, was surprised by a sweet six-figure lottery win.
On Tuesday, the Maryland Lottery confirmed that one Annapolis woman scored a sweet $50,000 prize from a recent Powerball drawing.
The winner purchased her ticket at the Safeway store at 1781 Forest Drive in Annapolis.
Interestingly, the fortunate woman, who usually buys tickets every week, admitted that the day she went out shopping, she didn't plan to buy a ticket at all.
Instead, the Anne Arundel County resident was focused on buying everything needed for the upcoming Thanksgiving dinner at the time.
In an interview for an official from the Maryland Lottery, the woman said: "I really had no intention of playing the Lottery."
However, as she was nearly done with her shopping list, the lucky woman walked past the counter and decided to give Powerball a try.
Considering she was shopping on November 19, 2025, a Wednesday, there was a Powerball drawing scheduled later that same night. This is likely why she decided to give the game a try.
On the next day, the Annapolis woman decided to check her Powerball ticket.
Shocked and surprised, she saw that it brought her a sweet $50,000 prize.
"I checked the ticket on my Lottery app when I was eating," the woman said, admitting that she was in disbelief and after the initial surprise, she checked the ticket over and over.
Ahead of the drawing, the woman recalled thinking it would be great to win $500, which was the biggest prize she had won in the past.
Yet, the $50,000 win undoubtedly surprised and shocked her.
Asked about the numbers she used, the fortunate winner said she picked "lucky, favorite and family birthdays."
The winner said she intends to save the money from the unexpected windfall.
