Maryland grandfather keeps $770K winning ticket in car for week

A lottery player in Maryland beat the odds of 1 in 2 million and won a life-changing six-figure jackpot.

Earlier in the week, the Maryland Lottery confirmed that one fortunate grandfather from Silver Spring had taken down the jackpot from its Multi-Match game only recently.

The win is the sixth Multi-Match jackpot for the year

The winner's ticket was purchased at Bel Pre Wine located at 2251 Bel Pre Road in Silver Spring.

Against the odds of 1 in 2,032,151.7 on a single game, the fortunate grandfather won the top prize from a Multi-Match drawing earlier this month.

Scoring the top prize, the winner took home the entire jackpot of $770,000.

The cost of each game of Multi-Match is $2.00, and tickets can only be purchased in Maryland.

On each payslip, players can find five Multi-Match games with each costing $2.00 for a total of $10 for all five games.

To win the top prize, the fortunate grandfather matched six out of six numbers on a single line.

Had he missed one of the numbers, the Silver Springs senior would've won only $1,000.

Players who match four out of six numbers on a single line stand to receive $20, while matching three out of six winning numbers awards the game's minimum prize of $2.

After selling the jackpot winning ticket, Bel Pre Wine will benefit from a $1,000 bonus.

The latest windfall marks the sixth Multi-Match jackpot for the year so far.

Winner says his children will benefit from his lottery prize

After purchasing the Multi-Match ticket on November 5, 2025, the fortunate winner left it in his car for more than a week.

He finally decided to check it on November 13 and was shocked to realize that a week had passed before he knew he won the game's jackpot.

The grandfather immediately told his son about the big windfall.

However, his son was incredibly suspicious about potential scams and fraud, so he asked his wife to check on his father.

On the same day, the winner's daughter-in-law visited his home to find him holding the Multi-Match ticket.

The woman then checked the Maryland Lottery's official website and saw an article about the winning Multi-Match ticket sold in Silver Spring.

Once she compared the numbers on the ticket, she uncovered that her father-in-law indeed had won the top prize from the popular game.

The next day, the fortunate winner visited the Maryland Lottery headquarters to claim his newfound fortune.

Asked about his plans for the jackpot, the lucky grandfather admitted that his children will benefit from most of the prize.
