One fan of crosswords in Maryland was pleasantly surprised by a life-enhancing six-figure prize after trying her luck with a $10 scratch-off ticket.
Earlier in the week, the Maryland Lottery confirmed that a Dorchester County woman scored one of the remaining top prizes from its $100,000 Crossword scratch-off game.
The fortunate woman purchased her $10 ticket at Zip Market at 405 High Street in Cambridge.
Once she scratched it off, she was surprised that she won one of the remaining top prizes for a sweet $100,000 payday.
In an interview for an official with the Maryland Lottery, the lucky woman admitted that she really likes crosswords.
"I love the crosswords," the Dorchester County winner admitted.
While the winner acknowledged that she often plays different lottery games, she reiterated that crosswords are always her first pick.
Asked about her plans for the unexpected windfall, the lucky woman said: "I'm going to have fun spending it on me."
Interestingly, the $100,000 win isn't the first big prize the lucky woman has won while playing crossword scratch-off tickets.
The woman admitted that back in 2019, she scored $30,000 while playing another crossword game.
On August 20, 2025, the 9th edition of the $100,000 Crossword ticket was released.
Each $10 ticket grants players a chance to win a prize between $10 and a top prize of $100,000.
After the most recent grand prize win, now, four prizes of $100,000 each remain in play.
On the other hand, the popular scratch-off ticket game also offers tier two prizes of $10,000 each with seven out of 13 up for grabs.
A tier-three prize from the $10 scratch-off ticket awards $1,000 and out of 25 such prizes, 18 remain in play.
Within the lower prize tiers, more than 500,000 prizes between $500 and $10 are up for grabs from the $100,000 Crossword game.
