A young man from North Carolina, who was sitting at home bored and decided to try a digital instant game was surprised by a life-changing prize.
Earlier this week, the North Carolina Education Lottery confirmed that a Burnsville resident scored the jackpot from its multi-state digital instant game, Monopoly.
The fortunate winner decided to try the multi-state digital instant game last week, while he was at home.
The Burnsville resident tried his luck with $5 and was shocked after winning the top level "Grand Fortune" jackpot for a sweet $952,821 payday.
In an interview for an official with the North Carolina Education Lottery, the lucky man recalled the day he decided to try the digital instant game.
"I was just killing time out of boredom. When it stopped at the jackpot I was like, 'There's no way,'" the man admitted.
Seeing the life-changing jackpot that is just short of $1m, the 35-year-old man admitted to feeling ecstatic.
The lucky lottery player arrived at lottery headquarters on Monday to claim his big win.
Considering that state and federal taxes apply to lottery winnings in North Carolina, the 35-year-old man collected $683,651.
Asked about his plans for the newfound fortune, the Burnsville resident admitted that he will likely buy a new truck.
The fortunate man also said he may invest some of the winnings.
Monopoly is part of the North Carolina Education Lottery's digital instant games.
As a multi-state game, jackpots from it can grow faster and larger, and can be won by players in different states.
The price per play in Monopoly varies between $0.50 and $30.00, while the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.89.
At the time of writing, the digital instant game's jackpot is an estimated $476,024.
