A racecar fan who used motor number was surprised by a life-enhancing six-figure win.
On Monday, the Maryland Lottery confirmed that one Prince George's County racecar enthusiast hit a sweet prize from a recent Pick 5 drawing.
The fortunate player, a Hyattsville resident, purchased tickets from the BP gas station at 4501 Eastern Avenue in Mount Rainier earlier this month.
He selected the popular game, Pick 5, and played in the game's drawing on November 14, 2025.
The lucky man decided to play with the stock number on a motor he purchased for his racecar some years ago.
That number was 94242 and the lottery player had been using it for some time.
To the man's surprise and shock, his numbers came out straight on Pick 5's evening drawing from November 14.
Checking his tickets on the night of the drawing, the man first saw the Pick 4 numbers, which, interestingly enough, were 9424.
The fortunate man then thought that the Pick 4 drawing numbers were just one digit off his own number.
Then, when he checked the Pick 5 winning numbers, the man realized that he had won two prizes of $50,000 each for a total payout of $100,000.
Recalling the exact moment, he realized he had won big, the man said: "When I saw my number straight in Pick 5, I couldn’t talk for a minute."
Feeling shocked, the Hyattsville player decided to wake up his wife and give her the good news.
The woman was surprised and didn't know what to expect when her husband woke her in the middle of the night.
She said that at the time, her husband told her that there was money in his shirt pocket.
When she reached into her husband's pocket, the woman found the Pick 5 tickets and, after scanning them, saw that each won $50,000 for a total of $100,000.
"She took those tickets and didn't give them back until we claimed the prize today," the lucky winner said.
Asked about his plans for the unexpected windfall, the car enthusiast said he will pay off a truck and invest part of the winnings.
Moreover, he explained that he will take his grandchildren to donate, showing them a good example of giving back.
