A Las Vegas man who was previously arrested in April and is currently accused of running an illegal gambling business, and then using various businesses to obfuscate the source of founds, will not have to pay bail money to walk for now.
Described by his defense attorney as a "degenerate gambler" who "wins a lot and loses a lot," the man has been released without bail money after a grand jury indictment, at a Clark County judge’sdecision on September 30, 2026.
The Clark County District Attorney’s office has asked that Clark County District Judge Carli Kierny puts a $1m bail on William West Roberts, who is alleged to have run the "illegal" business.
However, after the grand jury indicted him on multiple charges, Judge Kierny has been released on his own recognizance. Chris Rasmussen, defending Roberts, explained that the prosecutors have mischaracterized his business as a sports betting operation, when it reality it was a "licensed sports information service, not a bookmaker," as per a statement from the lawyer.
Regardless of the defense and the release, Roberts remains charged of running a gambling establishment, unlawful receipt of compensation for accepting bets or wagers upon result of certain events without required gaming license, accept, receive or allow another to accept or receive unlawful wager from a person in Nevada, and launder or attempt to launder money or property, as per the official court records.
Prosecutors claim that EZWIN247.com, a play on words from "easy win 24/7" was a bookmaker. The company, based in Costa Rica, does not have a gaming license in Nevada, the prosecutors further claim, insisting that the website acted as a bookmaker, and not a mere sports infotainment outlet.
Prosecutors further allege that Roberts then took money from the business and ran them through Wild Bill Consulting and Ace’s Family Fitness to transfer money with Zelle, before heading to the Caesars Palace Race and Sportsbook to place sports bets in person.
The period of the allegations focuses on the period between October 11, 2024, and July 31, 2026.
Roberts has, however, so far been able to argue his case successfully. A previous case against him was dismissed in August, while prosecutors were pursuing the grand jury indictment.
In the meantime, Chief Deputy DistrictAttorney Austin Beaumont said that only a day after his arrest, Roberts accepted a wager from an undercover FBI agent. Roberts allegedly asked the person if he was working undercover, to which the agent replied he was not.
"It's very clear Mr. Roberts is not going to stop," Beaumont.
