An incredibly fortunate man called it "fate" when a scratch-off ticket brought him a life-changing prize.
That’s the case for one Smithfield man, who scored a top prize from the Virginia Lottery’s Red 7s Doubler ticket.
The player decided to try his luck with the $5 scratch-off and little did he know that this ticket will bring him huge fortune.
The man purchased his Red 7s Doubler ticket at Park & Shop on 1001 South Church Street in Smithfield.
To his surprise, he scored one of the game’s top prizes for a sweet $100,000 payday.
In Virginia, under the existing laws, lottery winners have the right to have their identity concealed.
The fortunate man chose this option so it is likely that his identity will forever remain a mystery.
Still, an official from the Virginia Lottery had a chance to talk to the fortunate winner, who said: "It must have been fate."
"I can’t believe I won! I feel great," the lucky man added.
When asked about his plans for his newfound fortune, the player admitted that he first wants to see the winnings in his bank account before deciding what he will do with it.
The Virginia Lottery launched the Red 7s Doubler ticket in September last year.
Each ticket costs $5 and grants players a chance to win a prize between $5 and $100,000.
Undoubtedly, the Smithfield man will always remember the ticket he purchased, considering that the odds of winning $100,000 are 1 in 1,183,200.
After the recent top prize win, now, only one prize of $100,000 remains in play.
The $5 ticket also offers tier-two prizes of $5,000 each, and there are 10 of those up for grabs.
A tier-three prize awards $500 and there are a dozen of those prizes remaining, as well as many more within the lower prize tiers.
The overall odds of winning any prize from the Red 7s Doubler ticket are 1 in 3.79.
