Baltimore County woman wins $50K after lottery routine change

Lottery players across the globe use different methods when it comes to entering a draw or purchasing a ticket.

While some look for signs of good fortune, others may check the serial number of the ticket or participate on dates they feel are lucky.

Of course, everyone has different ideas when it comes to methods that can "boost" their luck and while some players may use the same numbers throughout their whole lives, others consider they have a bigger chance to play with random numbers.

One woman from Maryland, who self-describes as a frequent lottery player, has a special system when it comes to purchasing tickets.

Sticking to a specific system may benefit some players but this lucky Parkville player had to break her routine to secure a mouth-watering prize.

On Wednesday this week, the Maryland Lottery confirmed that the Parkville woman was the lucky winner from the Bonus Match 5 drawing from August 3.

The lucky woman won the game's grand prize, a sweet $50,000.

The winner plans to pay some bills

The lucky winner recently visited the Lottery headquarters to claim her prize.

When asked what she plans to do with the money, the Parkville woman said she will pay some bills.

"After that, I have no idea. Something fun will pop into my head, I’m sure," revealed the lucky lottery player.

In light of the $50,000 win, the store that sold the ticket will also receive a bonus.

The lucky lady purchased her ticket from Speedy Convenience in Baltimore County. As a result, the retail outlet will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.

A change in routine helped the lucky player score the recent win

The Bonus Match 5 grand prize winner revealed that she usually buys tickets from four different stores.

Describing this activity as a part of her process, the winner said she purchases tickets from one store on one day, on the next day from the other and so on.

Despite the player's routine, she decided to visit a different retailer on one occasion.

"I don’t know why. I drive by Lottery stores every day without stopping because I like to stick to my system," said the lucky player.

Still, she believes that the change in her routine ultimately got her the $50,000 win from Bonus Match 5's recent drawing.

The chances of winning the grand prize from Bonus Match 5 are 1 in 575,757 per $1 ticket and 1 in 191,919 per $2 ticket.

Overall, the approximate probability of winning a prize from the game with a $1 ticket is 1 in 52, while the probability of winning a prize per $2 ticket is 1 in 17.
