Amid its expansion in North America, Soft2Bet announced that it secured certification in Ontario, Canada's most populous province and major online gambling market. Confirmation about the certification came earlier this week with the company revealing that it secured a Certificate of Registration from the province's gambling regulator, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). As a result, Soft2Bet will be able to now expand its presence in the region.
The certification in Ontario complements the company's ongoing expansion across North America. It represents a major step for Soft2Bet as it gets the company closer to the launch of its iGaming brand, Tooniebet.com. Still, the company's plan to expand in Ontario in particular doesn't come as a surprise, considering the significant potential of the betting and iGaming market in the province.
In January, Soft2Bet joined forces with Hacksaw Gaming for the gambling sector in Romania. Under the terms of that deal, Hacksaw Gaming agreed to supply games, powering the offering of Don.ro, Soft2Bet's brand in the European country. As a result, new customers gained access to hit titles from Hacksaw Gaming, including Wanted Dead or a Wild, Le Bandit and RIP City, among others.
Martin Collins, Soft2Bet's Chief Business Development Officer, shared his excitement about the latest certification secured by the company in Ontario. In a statement, he pointed out: "This Ontario certification is another significant and important step in our corporate expansion plans." Finally, Collins said: "It fits perfectly with our stated aim of growing our regulatory footprint and we very much look forward to continuing forward on this path."
Elisabeth Isaksson, Soft2Bet's Head of Regulatory Compliance, was excited as well. "Being registered with the AGCO in Ontario is a testament to the work our compliance and regulatory teams are doing daily to enable our continued expansion in the world’s largest regulated markets," she explained. In conclusion, Isaksson said: "We’re immensely excited about taking our first steps in North America and look forward to licensing and launching in more jurisdictions in the region."
It has been nearly two years since the launch of iGaming and sports betting in Ontario. The province implemented new regulations in April 2022, effectively paving the way for the expansion of online gambling. Nearly two years later, Ontario's gambling market proved to be a major jurisdiction for North America.
For the fourth quarter of 2023, operators in the province reported wagers of CA$17.2bn, a result that marked a 21% increase. Similarly, gross gaming revenues for Q4 2023 soared by 22% to CA$658m.
