The leading iGaming provider of solutions, products and services, powering brands and operators within the online gambling industry, Gaming Innovation Group (GiG), announced a new collaboration, allowing it to further expand its foothold in the United States. The company confirmed Tuesday that its award-winning sportsbook and platform have gone live in Maryland, powering the launch of Crab Sports, a fast-growing sports betting operator in the state.
The launch enables Crab Sports, which is a unique local brand, to tap into state-specific sporting interests, powered by GiG's leading technology. While the latest collaboration helps strengthen the brand's presence in the state, it also helps expand the reach of GiG's award-winning technology.
Maryland was one of the states that legalized sports betting only a few years after PASPA's repeal in 2018. After the US Supreme Court struck down PASPA, a statewide expansion of betting was enabled and Maryland legalized the activity back in May 2021. Then, later that same year, in December, the state launched its legal retail betting market. The launch of mobile sports betting came a year later, in November 2022, granting customers access to plenty of mobile betting action via 10 licensed operators.
The launch of Crab Sports in the Old Line State further expands the mobile betting market. Since the introduction of online sports betting in Maryland, the activity's gross gaming revenue has been gradually growing and for the seven months through May this year, it hit $328m.
Derek Baker, Crab Sports' representative, commented on the topic in a statement released on July 18, 2023. Baker spoke about the collaboration with GiG which represented an important milestone for the company. According to him, GiG brought award-winning products and solutions that enable Crab Sports to enter the competitive market in Maryland.
