The recently concluded Gaming in the Nordics Launch Event, which took place at the Better Collective HQ in Copenhagen, Denmark focused on the role the Nordic markets play in the sprawling and expanding iGaming ecosystem across Europe.
The event saw multiple speakers step up and highlight the unique regional traits that turned the Nordics into a sector powerhouse, with Morten Ronde, CEO of the Danish Online Gambling Association and Partner, calling Scandinavian companies and professionals pragmatic and willing early adopters.
Spillemyndigheden Director Anders Dorph spoke about operator compliance, Big Tech, and player monitoring, praising how the Danish industry always sought and wanted to be compliant.
Betsson CEO Pontus Lindwall and Immerse Group CEO Jesper Kärrbrin touched on further important topics, including player protection, and spoke about what helps build healthy markets with a strong player channelization, naming meaningful player protections, real enforcement, and competitive product as the key pillars of building one.
"We are in a business where there is harm. We must admit this and reflect on this. We also need to be able to reach these players, which we can only do if they are inside of the regulated system," Lindwall explained.
Gaming in the Nordics Founder Willem van Oort has welcomed the discussions and what the event has achieved so far:
"I think the Gaming in the Nordics Launch Event was a fantastic success. The event featured key decision-makers and thought leaders from the Nordics. I particularly enjoyed the fact that on several occasions there was a real meeting of the minds among the speakers and other participants. I am very much looking forward to repeating this experience next year on a larger scale."
